These images represent the ghostly presences of extant public monuments principally in the remarkable moments of their removal. These events have enabled works on paper possessing a rich array of marking strategies memorializing these scenes in haunting tableaus.

Howard Skrill is an artist and educator, and a long-term resident of Brooklyn, NY with a BFA from Suny-Purchase and an MFA from CUNY-Queens College. He instructs college students of Brooklyn and Newark in studio arts and art survey.

Skrill's art project, “The Anna Pierrepont Series,” was the subject of a solo exhibition (plein-air and studio) entitled “Monumental Follies” (Fairfield University Art Museum 2020) and his newest works, “Monumental Ghosts,” will be on display from April 20 - May 25, 2024 at the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton, NY. Works from the series have been included in group exhibitions such as “Who Writes History” (ArtsWestchester 2022), "Darkest Before Dawn" (Kube Beacon 2022), “!!PUBLIC ART???” (Ramapo College 2019) and others. 

He is a recipient of grants from the Mozaik and Puffin Foundations (2022) and an in-person residency at Kunstram.
